How would you create a stone look on wooden flats? Film/Theatre: Art Direction/ Production Design?
Hi,
I'm art directing a low-budget student film in Toronto, Canada, and I'm looking for a solution to creating a fake stone wall on wooden flats in order to create the look of a bedroom in a medieval castle.
A couple possible solutions I've contemplated:
-Painting the wood to look like stone
-Plastering stone shaped sections and then painting them
Is there such thing as a fake stone panel that can be stapled or hammered to flats? If so what might it cost and where might I go to pick them up?
I would appreciate any feedback anyone can give me.

It would be good practice to paint your stones, I'm a faux finnisher and do it all the time in peoples homes.
But there is a quicker soultion. Go to a large home improvement center and they have styrafoam bricks, stones, and things like that.
You can also make a few molds of real stones and fill them with papermache material.
The most fun is trying to figure the best most realistic soulution. Use some good references from magazines and books. Then study them carefully. You can do it! It's really not that difficult
I do have a good author that does wonderful trompe l'oeil. (to fool the eye) Graham Rust. The books are "the painted house", "revisiting the painted house", and "decorative designs"
