Is it possible to convert a pre-installed home carpet to an area rug?
I have a carpet that I am having removed in order to install hardwood floors. The carpet itself is only about a year old and still in very good condition. (If we didn't have pets we would probably keep it.) We have another house we would like to put the carpet in, but would only like to do so in the form of an area rug.
Is this kind of transplant possible? Has anyone ever done this? What are some other options?

Yes you can have it bound at the edges to make an area rug. Call around to carpet showrooms and sometimes even companies that specialize in cleaning area rugs have sources for this project. A warning though. Do not place the bound carpet transformed into an area rug directly on your new hardwood flooring. The backing on carpet will act like sandpaper against the flooring and will scratch it horribly with foot traffic.
