I was wondering if I can keep my goldfish in a kiddie pool outside instead of buying a big tank?
I want a lot of goldfish and I already have a small miniature pond in the front with comet goldfishes in it. However, i was wondering if i can keep a bunch of different kind of goldfish in a kiddie pool that holds about 264 gallons. The kind of fish I was planning to keep in there are: comets, veiltail, koi, fantail, black moor.
I understand that the black moor and veiltail have a hard time swimming and eating and putting them with the faster fishes will not be a good idea. However i can block half the pool just for those fishes. Still I would still like to know if it is possible for me to do this, Of course there will be no filter but i will have snails to clean the pool and will change the water often. (how often do you think i should change it)
greatly appriciate it
Kiddie pool works great. I would shoot for some type of aeration to add oxygen to the water like a simple waterfall or fountain that you can get at home depot in the garden center for cheaper than a pet store. I would put some aquarium gravel or some rocks at the bottom as layer where a natural biological filter can establish it self. Thus with fountain from home depot and gravel or rocks at the bottom eliminates the filter and keeps your fish healthy. All for relatively cheap money. In terms of the fish, Ive seen all types of goldfish in a community "pond". I would avoid koi simply because the kiddie pool isn't deep enough unless you plan on heating it in the winter. My experience with koi proved that when it gets to around 40 degrees or when the first cold snap hits they like to go deep and if they cant they will die. also the size of the kiddie pool at 260 gallons would only be large enough to support in the best case scenario 1-2 koi. I would look towards shubunkin goldfish as they get large (10-12 in) like koi with nice markings.
